This is done mainly in Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands. These eel fingerlings are used more and more for restocking, because of the high quality standards that have been obtained. The efficiency of these farms is very high: usually 75-80 % of the glass eels will grow up to fingerlings. Also the production can be planned in advance and large quantities are possible. But also farmed fingerlings from closing down production farms or slow growing stocks are on the market: often lower quality and lower priced. We keep track of the origin, even of the origin of the glass eels used to produce these fingerlings. So we are well able to exclude bad quality eel fingerlings and suspicious traders. We keep track of those too. Wild eels: Small eels are caught and used for restocking elsewhere.  In some countries it is not allowed to catch small eels. Quality depends on the catching method and area.  Catches are not predictable and spread in time. So the supply is low and usually not steady. These wild eels are lower priced.
